Pieter Arend Folkens Lawsuits

Peter Arend Folkens (Folkens for brevity) is a wildlife artist, illustrator, photographer, and author . He is best known and respected for his work in the field of marine mammals. He authored the pen and ink illustration created in 1979 entitled “Two Tursiops Truncatus” a.k.a. “Two Dolphins”. The work is protected by copyright registrations including copyright registration VA 31-890.

Folkens has instituted copyright infringement lawsuits against numerous John Doe Defendants mostly captioned as Peter Arend Folkens v. Does, at least initially.The lawsuits typically allege that defendants reproduced the plaintiff’s work, namely “Life in the Living Sea” without authority. The work is used in advertisements on various websites on the Internet including, but not limited to, SignatureGalleries.com/Wynland and/or WynlandGalleries.com.

Folkens has pursued its lawsuit(s) in the United States District Court for the District of California. He may have suits in other jurisdictions as well.
