Optimum Productions is a corporation owned by Michael Jackson at the time of his death in June 2009. It is now part of the Michael Jackson estate and controlled by its executors.
As tribute to Michael Jackson’s contribution to the music industry and in memory of his supposedly last concert, Sony Pictures Entertainment released a motion picture entitled “This is It” which contains footage shots during rehearsals. The movie is protected by a Certificate of Copyright Registration issued by the Register of Copyrights.
Optimum Productions, Inc. has instituted copyright infringement lawsuits against numerous John Doe Defendants mostly captioned as Optimum Productions, Inc., et al. v. Does, at least initially. The lawsuits typically allege that defendants downloaded, copied and misappropriated clips, artworks and trailers from the movie via torrent protocol and share the same without their authorization.
Optimum Productions has pursued its lawsuit(s) in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The firm may have suits in other jurisdictions as well.
